Yoko Ono Reveals John Lennon's Safety Concerns

Yoko Ono revealed in a new book details about the attempts she made to ensure John Lennon's safety before his tragic death over 40 years ago. In an interview with the couple's former spokesperson and friend, Elliot Mintz, Ono shared that she knew Lennon was in danger and admitted that she had tried to protect him, although ultimately she could not keep him away from harm.

In the conversation recorded in the book "We All Shine On: John, Yoko and Me", Mintz recalled how Ono confessed to him that she knew Lennon was not completely safe in New York. Despite sending him to Bermuda for the summer in an attempt to keep him safe, Ono admitted that she could not protect him forever. She revealed that she was warned about the dangers in the city, which led her to try to take measures to ensure her husband's safety.

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot outside the Dakota building, where he lived in New York. Mark David Chapman, a 25-year-old fan, shot the musician as he returned home. Despite efforts to save him, Lennon died at Roosevelt Hospital shortly after arriving. The next day, Yoko Ono issued a public statement confirming her tragic loss.

After the murder, Chapman was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison for second-degree murder. Although he has applied for parole several times, it has been denied, and he currently remains in prison. Lennon, known for his concern for humanity, was cremated at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York, and his ashes were scattered in Central Park.

Yoko Ono recalled in this new book the painful experience of losing Lennon and the failed attempts to protect him, highlighting the importance of remembering his legacy and his love for humanity. Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, John Lennon continues to be remembered and celebrated for his lasting impact on music and popular culture.
